Over Seventy Students to Take Part in Third Annual Spirit Quest

The Spirit Quest will begin at the EMSB Administration Building (6000 Fielding) at 8:30 a.m. with a First Nations Smudge Ceremony. Throughout the day, students will visit sacred sites and gain understanding of their neighbours and peers while performing acts of community service. The Spirit Quest will end at Beaver Lake on Mount Royal.

Organized by the EMSB’s Spiritual and Community Animation Service, the Spirit Quest will involve students from 11 schools: John F. Kennedy High School in St. Michel, John Paul High and Laurier Macdonald High School in St. Leonard, Lester B. Pearson High School in Montreal North, Lauren Hill Academy in St. Laurent, Marymount Academy International and Royal Vale School in N.D.G., Rosemount High School and Vincent Massey Collegiate in Rosemount, Royal West Academy in Montreal West and Westmount High School.

“One of the goals of the Spiritual and Community Animation service is to facilitate and encourage students to put into action their best self, and express their own positive virtues and character traits,” said Frank Lofeodo, Coordinator of the SCA Service. “The foundation of our work is to encourage a journey to deeper self-understanding.”

The Spirit Quest is modeled after the First Nations tradition of the same name. First Nations individuals embark on a Spirit Quest with the hope of experiencing an inner change, healing, as well as an openness to others and to the divine.
