Montreal - Tuesday, February 9, 2021

Project managers at the English Montreal School Board remain optimistic that the extensive renovations which began more than a year ago at Westmount Park Elementary School will be completed in time for the 2021-2022 academic year.

At the present time the EMSB is looking at three possible scenarios:

  • Students and staff, presently housed at the former St. John Bosco School in Ville Émard and Marymount Academy International in NDG, move back into the building for the start of classes.
  • Students and staff move back in, with the contractor completing any remaining work on evenings and weekends.
  • The move is delayed to sometime in 2021-2022, with the Ville Émard and Marymount facilities still available for use.

While the COVID-19 pandemic has caused some delays, construction continues to proceed at a good pace.

The major renovations at Westmount Park include, but are not limited to, roof, interior finishes, accessibility (elevator), mechanical (plumbing, CVAC, sprinklers), electrical (wiring, lights, telecom, fire alarm system, etc.) and exterior (additional accessibility ramp, public utility works, drainage system and foundation waterproofing). Work began in the summer of 2019 and demolition was completed in February 2020.

Since work on the ground floor and the basement remain the final portion of the building to be completed, in the event of a delay caused by the pandemic it would be conceivable to temporarily relocate the Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten classes elsewhere in the facility or to another location until everything is ready.

The EMSB will continue to provide frequent updates.
